Breaking New Ground

I have started working on a new ecommerce script which will serve to run a complete website in a way that has never been done before.

The focus of this new script is on "database marketing", which means that you collect information about your overall audience, and use that information to better target your messages to those most likely to be interested in them.

As an example, in the personal development field, there are some folks who would be highly interested to learn everything they can about the Law of Attraction, whereas others don't want to hear anything about it, but would much rather hear about BrainWave Entrainment, or communication principles.  In the weight-loss field, some folks are more interested in learning about diets, where others are more interested in exercise.

This script will accomplish this through the heavy use of 'tags', which are small bits of data that indicate what each person has responded to in the past, such as when they click a link, view a page, or buy a product.  Also central to this script is the use of "multi-variant testing", which means that many different things are tested at once, quickly leading to a much more profitable business.  Several other unique features are also involved, such as scheduled actions, triggers, and more flexibility than any script has ever had.

My motivation for creating this new script comes from a frustration in the limited way that every other script handles the task of running an ecommerce business.  As flexible as the Drupal system is for creating a content site, it falls down in certain areas of ecommerce.

Over the past few weeks, I have designed the database that will support this new script, and am now working on laying out the templates for the pages involved.  After that's done, I'll start coding the programming logic, which is where all the work is done.  This part will take the longest, and I'm expecting the whole process to take a significant amount of time.

As I go, I'll post the more interesting details here.  Since I'm not actively promoting this website, I don't expect a lot of response to these posts, however, in time, this site will gain greater attention.  At that point, we'll all be glad I kept this online journal.
